Can someone give me idiots guide for putting avatars from other sites to a profile?

its preety simple... first you download avatar into your comp and then host it somewhere.
e.g.
Photobucket.com
Imageshack.us

for avatars, signatures i reccomend photobucket(just register there and upload image)
Once its done you will receive link. That link should be putted into "Avatar url" cell in your profile. ^^
