Just keeping everyone up to date:
Asking for assistance outside our (BNS's) own server has been pretty futile, despite the promises. I hold nothing against these people. So, here's some good news for a change.
Our server is beefy enough to cope with the freelancer servers but needs something enabled in the BIOS. As the server's in Holland and largely non-managed, this isn't easy. However, the guy who gave us the server is going to switch it on for us. I know it's going to be soon but can't give an exact day it will happen. Effectively I'm just waiting on the nod.
Want even more good news? Yeah? ok......
When (not if) we get EU up, I'll be making room for another freelancer server - B S G. KOS|Acid (custodian of the servermod) will happily manage the BSG server and I'm more than happy to give him somewhere to run it.
I hope this is pleasing you all. I'm just sorry it's taking longer than normal.

Okay, its been a really busy week at BNS HQ and I hope all this hard work pays off. As of last night (which I gave up a drunken night of WT fun for) we've now got a Windows server running with a fully functional Eagle Utopia Freelancer server. Please take a moment to thank my friend Dave, aka ||KOS||Acid, for all the effort he put in for us. The EU mod had to be rebuilt from the ground up as the client mods that came with it were mismatched and the server mod was missing a few essential components. The good news is this rebuild gives a ship cruise speed of 600, widescreen support, simplified game menu and many more features all to make it a better experience. The upshot of all this nonsense is Dave set up the server to manage things 100x more efficiently than I was ever hoping to achieve. Instructions for those who have the game installed & patched: To begin, make sure FLMM and Freelancer are set to run as administrator. This is important. 1. Run FLMM and deactivate any older version of the EU mod. 2. Once deactivated click tools and go to mod folder. 3. Delete any and all EU folders. 4. Close FLMM 5. Grab the new Eagle Utopia Client Mod ----> Click Here (mod will always be the latest from this link) 6. Double click to install. 7. Launch Freelancer 8. Connect via internet to multiplayer. Wait for server list to refresh and look for "[24/7] Eagle Utopia" 9. Connect to server and ENJOY. The only thing we couldn't get working was the deathmatch mod (jumphole etc.) It's not the biggest issue in the world as the rest of the verse is intact. We'll look into getting the DM working soon. For now I look forward to seeing you all in there. Archangel's been admin'd so can dish out resources as needed. I'll admin up the rest of the nominees when Rave gives names. Just get your main char created for now. The work doesn't stop there. I'll be putting up a 2nd windows server for KOSacid to set up and run one of his Freelancer mods. I think he's dropping BSG in favour of Colours, but that's entirely his decision. I'll keep you posted on this. Whatever happens its all good

There's been some major updates to the server mod. A lot of new features have been incorporated but that's not even the good news. Deathmatch has been re-enabled after some really intensive recoding. It's the complete EU server setup as you might remember it, but with some bells and whistles. The new mod is available from the link above. Deactivate and remove any current EU mod and install the new one. There's way too much new stuff to mention but here's a sample anyway: Improved textures Widescreen support - will auto adjust to your native resolution. Mod pre-load options +Repair gun (buy a Justice mk1) +Mining gun (buy a Justice mk2) FTL travel (requires 50 H-Fuel per jump) Bank Networking System - /bank <amount> to deposit. Load a new char and /bankw <amount> to withdraw. Share the wealth the easy way. + much much more. This should be the final mod update. The server became self aware at 23:30 on 18th Feb 2014. Global domination is now inevitable. Edit: I Lied! There has been an update to the server as we couldn't get DM system working as expected. It's there and fully traversable but we couldn't set it up as original EU DM. Not to worry though, for we have a working solution. In place of using DM as the PVP arena, Acid added his restart plugin. Using /restart in space you will see a list of ships to choose from. Simply type /restart <ship> to get going. NOTE: Please use a fresh new character for this as it will wipe out any accumulated credits and possessions on any existing characters. You will be transported to the locked admin system, Utopia. There are no escape routes but feel free to fly around and take on missions from the planet. If you are lucky enough to discover a way out you will be pinged back to utopia on death. See you in space

Interesting. I still have it installed, might try to make it work under linux as well. Old post but worth a response... As you probably discovered Raven, FLserver does not cope too well running under linux WINE. This is mainly due to the additional win system components FLserver needs. You might have some luck using a suite such as PlayOnLinux or Crossover, but the time you spend setting any of these up would be best spent installing virtualbox and having a windows VM to run it on. Peace out

i dunno. i dont recall giving him info on the bns server. maybe rav did. or i did and forgot. It's perfectly okay for anyone to use BNS TS3. It was set up as a public server and it's there to be used And don't be shy to register and use our forums too. I'll have to activate the accounts manually as I'm sick of spambots defeating captcha but that's not a problem as I'm in there most days.

After sorting out Acid with his own server, he's decided to put up BSG Edge of Apocalypse. I've been on it for a couple of sessions and seems to be working pretty well.
Server IP: 87.249.106.7 - Up 24/7 until further notice

Please do list the ships that are missing. I'll ask him to look into it. The mod we have is not as up to date as the last full time BSG, but working very well none-the-less. I'm starting to veer towards BSG more than EU, mainly because of the variety of things to do. It's such a vast universe compared to when I used to play it years ago. Finding stuff like the Gates of Athena then figuring how to get through the mines labyrinth was a worthy challenge on a Sunday night. So far from about 8 hours of trading I amassed over 100mill That's just an estimate as I've probably spent the same on new ships and upgrades already. I also have superadmin rights so again, if I can get a name or two, I can add them as clan admins. We need to advertise the server to get more players. If you have places where you can share the info here it is: Eagle Utopia Server - 87.249.106.4 BSG server 2.31 - 87.249.106.7 Mods for both these servers can be found at the BNS HomepageSplash it all over facebook, twitter and other social networking sites (if you subscribe to any.) I'd love to stress test either server.

Ships that come to mind are the red/blue eagles and the shroud. I think another one was taken out too but I cant quite remember, maybe someone else knows? I'm doing my best to spread the word but a lot of the old FL faithful that Im still in contact with have moved on to other games. One idea is posting on the starport since AFAIK thats still an active FL community, might have old faces on there. Sadly I cant make an account for some unknown reason so Im unable to spread the word. Another idea would be putting the mods on moddb, that may not be possible though since they are technically someone elses work but I dunno. I'll still keep spreading the word and probably get on myself over the weekend hopefully.

*steps cautiously forward*
well, i finally got round to popping on to bsg and seeing what was what. worked fine. although no build commands *cries*. was alone there, so didn't really hang around for long.
tried eu... not so much luck there. not sure what i did wrong, but never saw it on server list, let alone tried it out.
anyway, how's everyone doing?

The BSG version is an older version that Acids still working on so thats probs why build commands arent there yet. I'm in the opposite boat to you and I cant see BSG in the server list but EU works. If you need help with getting on EU you can add me on steam which I'll pm to you if needs be, I don't use XF anymore. It could be a simple fix and then I can help you get set up. As for how people are, most of us are pretty busy these days and still need to get the word out to all the old faces about the servers so pass it on if you se any FL people. Good to see you on here though mate.

I read above about you not seeing BSG, Shadow. It should be listing okay. Not had any issues since it went live, except for highlighting a few bugs. I've not seen Acid online for a few days but then he doesn't have the greatest internet connection in the world. If you're struggling to find the BSG server get me on steam (muppetmauler.) Add me as a friend If you list by compatible builds it should be there. Just checked and yes it's online. IP is 87.249.106.7 for direct connection. Alternatively, join me in Teamspeak (address: bnsoutlaws.co.uk or 87.249.106.4 - port 9987) no password needed. (That applies to anyone) Make sure you are using the mod provided by Acid on the BNS homepage (also available in Teamspeak channel.) I've been out of the game for a few years and not sure what the *build command is for. someone enlighten me please. I'll ask Acid to put it in if possible. If there's anything you'd like to see on the servers, just let me know, even if its a new idea for a plugin. Acid says he will consider all ideas and suggestions.

lol. me and steam do not get on. well, steam customer services, that is. i created an account and logged in fine so i could install/register a couple of games, no probs. decided to buy a game that was on offer, and then my probs started. told me to click activation link in email, so i did that. wouldn't let me buy game. repeated more than a dozen times, no luck. steam basically told me, after i told them i wasn't going to create another email acc just for them, to create another email acc. i had tried with 2 of my emails already with no luck. told them to use the ones i gave them or they lose a customer... never heard from them after that. oh well, their loss.
if wilko ever gets back on xfire, i'll pass the news to him. he'll be chuffed to hear what's going on.
the build command basically allows you to make a couple of weapons, ammo, armour etc from basic commodities. 2-400m/hour was quite easy too, depending on how much effort you put in. also the build commands were in v2.31, so i assume they just haven't been turned on or something simple like that.

Yes, I spoke to Acid (in fact just came off Teamspeak after chatting for hours.) He told me all about the build plugin, and that is all it is - a plugin. Acid built the standard plugin engine for Freelancer. He'll look into adding it back in for you. As for steam, sorry to hear about your issues with it. The game should have been added to your library and you should have been able to install it directly from your steam library (e.g. no need to use a link in a confirmation email.) I've used it for over 9 years and never really had a problem with it. In fact I've got a sick amount of games for it now. You're also missing out on mega cheap game bundles from HumbleBundle.com (go check it out.) 67p for half a dozen AAA games complete with steam codes - you really can't argue at that price. Xfire is so yesterday's news mate, you really should shake it off. Using steam chat on the other hand is a good thing as 90% of the player base hangs out there at some point or other. The chat interface is every bit as good as XF, but like I said it's where we all communicate these days. Feel free to use BNS teamspeak. I've already set up Fang with their own channel and you're all free to use the other channels as you desire. The more the merrier At the moment in BNS we're looking to fix/replace our site's built in media player. Once that's sorted we'll be integrating our custom jukebox into FL. We used it continuously in our Team Fortress 2 servers and it really pulled in the crowds. I don't see why it can't work just as well in freelancer. Coupled with Teamspeak you'll see the game in a whole new light We have big plans not just for freelancer but for the gaming community as a whole. That includes FANG and any other clan/group that embraces/compliments our ethos of providing fun and enjoying each others company. We're not trying to take over anything, just providing a central community we can all use and benefit from. I am one of the original FANG clan members but broke off in 2006 to do my own thing. I'm still part of FANG for all intent and purpose and don't think that's going to change any time soon We've been lucky enough to acquire free server hardware and for as long as we have it we'll be putting out stuff everyone can use.

It won't lemme download the EU mod. just keeps saying "The requested URL /flexe/EU_v4.09.zip.flmod was not found on this server." BSG works fine though!

Fixed. Acid's put out an update, it seems, but changed the name of the file. Easiest solution - rename the file on the server Should work now. ps. Can someone take the "mod developer" moniker off my profile please? I only dabbled in it years ago lol. Acid's the real mod master.

Edit - aaaand done, no more mod dev.
